Discover the Santa Margarita River Trail Preserve in Fallbrook

We have been diligently checking out the many hikes we’ve discovered in the book, A Foot and Field in San Diego. The Santa Margarita River Trail Preserve is a relatively short hike, but one that was 2nd to last on our list of coastal inland trails.

The Santa Margarita River Trail Preserve is a public trail open throughout the year that follows the Santa Margarita River in which limited development allows visitors to experience the natural beauty of oak woodlands while enjoying birding, wildlife viewing, hiking and other outdoor activities.

  • The trail is moderate to advanced in some areas in difficulty due to its hilly terrain.
  • The Santa Margarita River trail was voted the number one trail of the best 50 trails in San Diego County.

If you’re looking for a nice trail to checkout, hiking in the Santa Margarita River Trail Preserve is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon. The preserve offers a variety of trails that wind through the hills and valleys, providing beautiful views of the surrounding area. Wildlife can be seen throughout the preserve, and there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy a picnic lunch. So, if you’re looking for a peaceful place to spend some time outdoors, be sure to check out the Santa Margarita River Trail Preserve.
